Did you know that we have a discount vision program through Blue Shield if you use a participating optician or optometrist? Most participating providers will give you a 20% discount if you present your Blue Shield identification card when you visit. The following services and supplies are included: routine eye examinations, lenses, frames, and contact lenses (disposable contact lenses are not included). If you would like a booklet with a list of providers in your area, please let me know. Other discounts for alternative care include chiropractors, fitness centers, massage therapists, acupuncturists, etc. can be found at the Blue Shield web site (www.blueshieldca.com or www.mylifepath.com). Some of you may have received letters from Blue Shield regarding changes in your medical group or hospital. If you are not sure of the medical group or hospital you should use, please call Member Services at 1-800-424-6521 or call me and I will be glad to help you. You can also locate caregivers close to your home by going to the Blue Shield web site and entering your address. If you have received an EOB (Explanation of Benefits) from Gallagher Benefit Administrators (Dental and PPO Medical) that you don't understand and would like a sample copy with a description of the codes, please let me know.
