Recently, Undergrounders gathered in Benicia to say a fond farewell to Jim and to wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor. Jim is leaving the Company to take over the reins of a specialty contracting business that serves the wine industry. Jim had been with the Company for over 22 years. He started as an Engineer on our Hartsfield airport job in Atlanta. He went on to our Bureau of Reclamation jobs in Colorado and Utah. Then he went to fiber work in California and the West. Jim also headed our Human Resources department for a few years. His most recent assignment as Vice President of the Company was to oversee the commercial aspects of our business. He did a great job of advocating Underground's position and assuring that our Managers and Engineers adequately assessed the risks inherent in our work. Jim had a strong affinity for Underground's active safety policy. In his parting remarks to the crowd he reiterated the importance of worker safety and pledged to conduct operations in his new Company with the same attention to safety that he learned with us. We will miss Jim in our daily activities but I am certain that he will always carry the legacy of Underground with him wherever life takes him. We thank him for the fine effort he put forth in our behalf, and wish him Godspeed. |

After working for more than twenty-eight years at Underground, Joe Woodruff has retired. Joe traveled all over the United States during his tenure with Underground, from California to Georgia, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, and back. Joe worked on some of Underground's most interesting major projects as an office manager and all around "right hand man" to many of our project managers. Joe could be entrusted to do anything, anywhere, and everyone knew that the job would be handled honestly and thoroughly. Joe is well known for his practical jokes, and there are only a few Underground employees who have not fallen victim to his pranks over the years. His sense of humor, good nature, and generosity has made Joe a colorful and unforgettable character. Joe will remain a good friend to all of us at Underground. Good luck, Joe, and keep in touch with your Underground family!
