Update on Quanta - All Good News!

I recently had the pleasure of attending a Quanta Services meeting and closing dinner in Houston. These meetings are held periodically to welcome new companies into the Quanta family, to meet their managers and to share our various capabilities with the existing and new companies.

Each firm gave a short presentation about their Company, their history, the type of work that they pursue, and their aspirations for the future. It was an impressive group that

covers the entire United States. We will continue to feature these firms in our newsletter so that you can also meet our partners. There were a lot of different capabilities from a large directional bore firm, to the premiere hard rock trenching outfit in the U.S.

The combination of all of the Quanta companies will perform approximately $700 million this year and more acquisitions are planned for the 3rd and 4th quarters, so we will continue to grow to meet our customers needs. The stock market has responded to this strategy and has increased shareholder value significantly this year.

More good news. It was announced that the stockholders have approved the Employee Stock Ownership Plan that will allow employees of Underground to purchase Quanta Services stock at a 15% discount on the most favorable price at the beginning or the end of each quarter. Our team will be able to do this through voluntary payroll deductions. There will be more detailed information later but we expect the program to start this fall.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank each and every employee for your fine safety performance for the first half of the year. Our first aid incident rate has decreased by 42%. Our OSHA recordable rate has decreased by 49% and we have had NO LOST TIME INJURIES. That is a wonderful accomplishment. Congratulations!

Silicon Valley Residential Project
Progressing Smoothly

By Tim Richards

Our multiple utility installation at a residence in Woodside, California is progressing through the summer. The 23-acre estate, when completed, will have two ponds complete with cascades and waterfalls that will be lined with boulders shipped from Yuba County. We are presently installing the pond piping, which includes over 10,000 LF of CPVC and HDPE from 4" to 12" diameter pipe. This pond circulation piping will convey water to the filtration system from the 42 pond skimmers, to maintain the 5 acres of ponds in a sparkling clear condition. We have also installed the fog maker piping at the waterfalls for the natural effect at these two locations. In addition to the upper and lower ponds, there is also a Koi pond between the north and south wings of the main residence

There is also a complete Well Water Supply System, which consists of eight well pumps with well depths over 300 ft. deep. We have installed all the Well Supply piping, including valves, control conduits and power conduits that supply and monitor these wells. All the wells are installed with two enclosure boxes, one which contains a meter complete with a remote reading transmitter and a dual check valve meter yoke, and the other contains the well head and gas detector. These eight wells will be utilized for irrigation water of the completely landscaped grounds.

We have also completed the Irrigation Piping System which consists of over 3000 LF of 4" diameter C-900 PVC pipe which will supply irrigation water that is controlled by 10 separate irrigation control units. We have also installed a conduit system for the irrigation control and power cables complete with pullboxes. An on-site weather station was installed to provide information to the Central Control Unit

in the utility building for verifying the atmospheric conditions at the site, thus allowing for adjustment of the irrigation water that is being supplied to each section.

The potable water system that has been installed provides water to the main residence, the five guest residences, and the barn. Pre-insulated copper piping was utilized for the chilled water supply and return, heating hot water supply and return, and the hot water circulating piping. We have also installed several fire hydrants for the Fire Water System.

A complete Natural Gas Distribution system has been installed using polyethylene piping. Over 3000 LF of 1 1/2", 1 1/4", and 3/4" diameter polyethylene gas line has been placed to supply the main residence and the guesthouses. We have also installed the spa piping and conduits, which are installed in an actual rock.

There are several electrical and communication conduit systems required for the project. We have installed the 480-Volt Power System, 480-Volt Emergency Power System, 120-Volt Emergency Power System, Site Lighting, Signal Conduits, Telephone, Video and Audio systems. Each system is installed with separate pullboxes and identified. There is also an emergency generator to provide an uninterrupted power supply, as well as a separate security conduit system, which will be utilized for the surveillance camera locations.

Jeff Smith is supervising the field operations while Tim Richards and Ben Bachelder are coordinating the trench sections and providing the engineering support.
