Congratulations are in order for Anthony Grose, the winner of the
Golden Trench Jack Award for 2002. Anthony and his crews worked almost 30,000
man-hours in the past twelve months without a recordable incident! With
small crews working throughout Oakland, Hayward, and San Francisco, at all
hours of the day and night, this was no small feat.
Anthony began his career at Underground five years ago, as a laborer
on an electrical substructure project in Sunnyvale. Early in his career
at Underground, he received an award in recognition of the numerous training
classes he took in the course of one year. He took advantage of the opportunities
offered by Underground, and was |
rewarded for his efforts. Anthony became a foreman just 1-1/2 years after
he was hired.
Anthony has worked all over the Bay Area, and spent many hours working
the night shift in San Francisco. A year and a half ago, he was given the
opportunity to run the Pacific Bell maintenance crews working in Oakland
and Hayward. He has done a great job doing quality work, maintaining good
customer relations, and is now being rewarded for his attention to safety.
When I talked to Anthony about his accomplishments, he wanted to make
sure that I mentioned the support and encouragement that he has received
from Tom Cornett, Division Manager for Underground ís PacBell |
maintenance work. Anthony especially wanted to express his appreciation
to his crews for working safely. Their commitment to safety is a direct
reflection on Anthony ís management. With a team like that, I would
expect to see Anthony in the running for another award in the future.
Congratulations to Anthony and his crews for keeping Underground one
of the safest companies in the construction industry.
